's debate was certainly a big win for mitt romney, hands down. but observers are still criticizing him, actually, about not giving enough details. so, i want to read to you what a conservative columnist for "new york times" said right after the debate. romney had his share of lines and the stinctions he drew between romney care and obama care and didn't say anything about helping the uninsured. how do you respond to that? is it time for romney to give more specifics? is he having a problem with that? >> easy to criticize both of them for not giving enough specifics. romney has a 59-point economic plan that most people have never looked at. i would say that is probably too specific. i think mitt romney should focus on saying things like, mr. president, we are, you seem to have a problem with profits, which my company made. but most americans have a problem with deficits, which you've rung up four consecutive trillion dollar deficits. they both have a ltle problem with details. but there is a big, i would strike a big contrast if i was mitt romney. i would put a working state on one side

august. the obama and romney campaign jumped on these figures and, of course, they came down on opposite sides. cnn political editor paul steinhauser joining us this morning. good morning, paul. so there's one month, hard to believe, till election day, and no issue bigger than jobs, right? >> no doubt about that, randi, and you're right. after what you could consider a tough week for the president coming out of that debate in denver the jobs numbers are a good sign for his re-election bid, a happy sign for the re-election team, but for mitt romney this is fascinating, landi, because the unemployment rate is below 8% for the first time since barack obama came into the white house back in january of 2009. you have heard mitt romney on the campaign trail over and over again, over the last year and a half running for the white house, criticize this president on jobs for the unemployment rate being over 8%. now it is under 8%. now it's time for mr. romney to have to pivot from his favorite line. take a listen to both candidates on the campaign trail yesterday reacting to the jobs numbers. >>

message than it is about money now heading down into the final days. >> mitt romney may soon get a cash boost of his own after the strong showing, a lot of folks say, in that debate. his performance surprised many, but you helped prepare him for the primary debates. was it exactly what you expected? >> well, you know, the governor has gotten increasingly better across both sets of primaries, from 2007 and 2008, to now this primary cycle, and across these primary debates he's gotten better and better, especially when he got into florida and arizona, had to go one-on-one with newt gingrich and rick santorum, he really grew, and i think what you've seen as a progression to the performance from the other night. >> here is what democratic strategist hillary rosen told me earlier this morning about the president's performance at that debate, which was panned by both critics and supporters. so listen to this and i want to get your reaction. >> you know, president obama didn't do so badly. he was much quieter, he was more thoughtful, he got a lot of facts out. it was just -- when push comes to

today that went down saturday night, they're not talking about president obama, governor romney, or even "saturday night live." they are talking about fox news host bill o'reilly and the daily show host john stewart. both men went at it and left no subject off the table during debate they billed as the rumble in the air conditioned auditorium at george washington university in d.c. >> fox news is sort of the lupus of news. they are -- they have seen something. it is there with a -- and fox news has gone overboard. >> well, hey -- [ applause ] >> fnc is making a billion dollars a year so something is -- >> you can't make money selling -- >> if you missed it last night, you can watch it on-line at the rumble 2012.com. >>> romney's foreign policy speech. afghanistan, israel, iran. which issue will romney focus on and which one gives him more ammunition against president obama? we'll take a look. jack, you're a little boring. boring. boring. [ jack ] after lauren broke up with me, i went to the citi private pass page and decided to be...not boring. that's how i met marilyn... giada... really
